Using the school building and grounds of Shishigawa Junior High School which was closed down in 2008, we opened Tsurigane for schools, businesses, and groups to host training camps and the like.
Individual guests are also welcome to come and enjoy the many mountains in the nearby area, many of which are famous for rock climbing and mountaineering, such as Mt. Ookue, Mt. Tsurigane, and Mt. Hiei.
The rooms are all created from the school’s old classrooms and the library room. The floors of each room have been carefully replaced with tatami mats for your comfort.

“Maroudo” has no established check-in and check-out system. When making the reservation, guests are required to fill in their estimated time of arrival, but as problems often arise where traveling, there is a chance that something unexpected might happen on the day itself. In such circumstances, in order to deal with the situation appropriately, after the reservation is completed, the contact number is given, which can be used to contact an English-speaking staff.
“Maroudo” can be written as “客人” or “賓”, means “a guest that has come from far away, and that we should receive with utmost courtesy”. I am a traveler myself, and have a fair bit of experience traveling to Germany and France. During my travels, I was warmly received as a “maroudo” wherever I went.
Upon starting this lodge, it was fairly natural that I should name it as such. Akimoto is a tiny settlement with a population of about 100 situated in the inner regions of Takachiho Town, but with a slogan “a village that is easy for honeybees to live in”, all the residents come together to work on creating a village that will lead on to the next generation by preserving old and good things while taking in new and good things. Nothing would make us more happy than if we could share this lifestyle with our “maroudo”.

“Heida no Sato” is currently a community of 6 old Japanese-style households, built approximately 70 years ago. The room layout and furniture has been left as it were although the kitchen and bathroom have been renovated to a modern style. It takes about 1 hour to climb the hill on foot.
Although Wi-Fi is not available, the aspect of being completely cut away in daily life will certainly allow you to experience “The Hidden Japan”, and we can declare that no other facilities go beyond in providing this experience.
Please bring plenty of food in our lodge. As cooking utensils are prepared, we hope our guests will enjoy cooking in this traditional Japanese house. The steep slope is cultivated as a way of life by the community around us. We wish that you can enjoy the gorgeous scenery viewable anywhere you go.
Now, because you can only use a credit card at the gas station in our village, please prepare Japanese Yen in cash from a Post office ATM or JA ATM, located at the post office and A-Coop, both in the same building.

Manager: Mr. Masahiko ITO
I am from Yame city, Fukuoka Prefecture. My hobbies are fishing and skiing, and I have been frequently visiting Gokase for a while now.
To those interested in fishing or skiing, I also give advice about great spots unknown to the public. The Gokase Guest House is located on the prefectural border with Kumamoto Prefecture; the panorama of Aso visible from the premises and the stars in the night sky are magnificent.
The management building can be available as freely usable space. All facilities are included, with a wood stove, large TV, refrigerator, gas range, tableware, cookware, washing machine, shower etc.
You can enjoy making lunch boxes using local organic ingredients, as well as participating in colorful international cooking parties. It is also convenient as a sightseeing base to Takachiho and Aso.
There is also a camping site, with rental tents and sleeping bags.

Owner: Mr. Yasuoshi HINOMIYA
As for the origin of “UKIGUMO”, it was named after the movie “Drifting Clouds”, by Owner Hinomiya’s favorite Finnish director, Aki Kaurismäki.
Mr. Hinomiya has spent a lot of time backpacking, travelling to Seattle in the US, The Hague in the Netherlands and Southeast Asia, and he aspired to manage a B&B/guest house where you could stay for a long time in Takachiro, too. He renovated a Japanese-style guest house that had closed, and it opened in March 2015. It is a guest house incorporating various experiences and ideas gained from his own journey.
It is in a good location, being a 5-minute walk from Takachiho Shrine and 10 minutes away from Takachiho Gorge. With 75% of our customers coming from overseas, and you can enjoy an international exchange with us. It is close to the city center, suitable for walking around at night, and a bar is within walking distance. The toilet is fully equipped with a bidet. Coffee and tea are provided free of charge in the lounge. Supermarkets, drug stores, convenience stores (Family Mart), etc. are nearby, so it is convenient for emergencies.
